Andrena cressonii fw.jpg

Cresson’s Mining Bee (Andrena cressonii) on Dandelion. The floral curly structures seen are dandelion anthers.

Mining bees within the Andrena genus can look remarkably similar, identifying individuals down to species can be tricky. Fortunately the second shot captured a distinctive detail for this species. Note the little yellow triangle adjacent to the bee’s eye.

Photographed in Ontario, May 2020.
